Project 1:1. Russia, 2018
Competition Entry for the Open International Competition for Alternative Layout Design in Standard Housing.

Competition organized by JSC DOM.RF and Strelka KB with the support of Ministry of construction industry, housing and utilities sector.

Our architectural proposal develops “economy” as a mean to guarantee different housing opportunities, considering: flexibility, personalization, versatility, easy assemblage, short time constructions, etc. with a modular system (technically and socially speaking).

Project_1:1 have the initiative of include all stakeholders during planning and realization of the housing project in order to give a complete answer to residence needs.

The Housing developers can see an opportunity to invest in a “zero waste” proposal. What we mean with this, can be divided in three aspects:

1. Modular system: based on a simple grid that can be subdivided on proportional modules (2X1) that creates living spaces on the apartment’s layout without corridors or nonsense spaces.

2. Structure: Bidirectional slabs increases the distance between pillars, leaving big spaces with less vertical partitions. All the columns are located on the grid intersections and the walls are prefabricated timber panels than could be personalized with any kind of finishing. That means than even if the structure is the same for any type of building the skin can be changed and gives a unique façade.

3. Time: the easy assembly of every part of the system guarantees a fast execution of construction.

On the other hand, the inhabitants have the possibility of choosing the most adaptable typology according to their needs (medium or large apartment).

Project_1:1 proposes open and functional spaces, than can be modified with a kind of “privacy regulator system” with in-between spaces. Using the soft partitions (sliding doors, curtains…) can provide the spatial continuity through the whole apartment or intimacy depending on the needs.

Flexibility and economy can take different meanings on the apartment’s layout, not just a module game and accessories setting, but a deep understanding of the economical and personal needs of the community. Having versatility and variability of uses in the zone raises the local economy and the social health in the neighborhood, for that reason also the apartment can be a mixture of uses, residence and commerce, or residence and office, becoming an “atelier” where people can contribute with different activities the local economy.

Housing should be a composition of spaces that are able to host the life in all of its shapes.
